Back in 2008, the Belgian ICQM and Dutch VVAK for certification of arable products, equal representatives of the OVPG (Consultation Platform for Processing and Trade in Vegetable Raw Materials and Products) and the Akkerbouw Certificeringsoverleg [Arable Certification Platform] already reached an agreement about the mutual acceptance of the Belgian Vegaplan Standard and the Dutch VVAK. This means that Belgian and Dutch crop farmers can sell their certified arable products in both Belgium and the Netherlands without additional inspections being required.
Representatives of OVPG and the Akkerbouw Certificeringsoverleg have examined whether the Dutch VVAK [Food and Feed Safety in Arable Farming] and the Belgian Vegaplan Standard are systems with equivalent content. This comparison showed that both systems - with the exception of a few differences in emphasis - have equivalent content. Both standards aim to offer the guarantee that the arable products offered by the crop farmers are safe and traceable.
The mutual acceptance applies for the cultivation of industrial vegetables, sugar beet and cereals, seeds and pulses. This means that Vegaplan certified crop farmers do not have to undergo additional inspections when selling to Dutch clients. Conversely, VVAK certified products meet the requirements set in Belgium.
